My mother has been the hardest-working person I’ve known.

With four children trailing behind her, she never let a hint of exhaustion show on her face. She would wake me up every morning before sunrise for our trip to the farmers’ market. In the early hours of those days, everything was different.

The sun would peek over the clouds just high enough to bathe the food in their stands with an orange glow that sent delicious scents wafting through the air.

My mother knew every trick in the book for finding the best ingredients. I remember how she would run her fingers over tomatoes, bring bunches of herbs up to her nose, and seek conversation with each farmer about their harvests. At the end of our trips she would turn to me and say, “Good food starts with good ingredients.”

It was after I had grown into a man that I realized those mornings shaped me. Watching my mother balance work, home, and our family, all while ensuring a fresh and wholesome meal each evening, made me understand the value of dedication and passion. With creativity behind every recipe, she made any meal feel like love on a plate.

To this day, I haven’t known inspiration like my mother. With every trip to the farmers’ market I knew I wanted to be just like her. Now, I introduce my dream to reality with Mistero, a restaurant born from a woman’s relentless spirit, her love for fresh ingredients, and the belief that food should always tell a story.
